MANSIONS OF GRANDEUR PART I
Did you hear someone say that there is a
slack in the construction market ask Reza
Kabul a high profile architect he asserts
if your work is good no slack will arise.
We at ARK CONSULTANTS PVT LTD are fully
occupied if a builder has built a good reputation
by giving the buyers a good choice there
will be no dearth in the number of projects.
However feels Reza that by this year end
the market should revive for everybody due
to factors like the abating recession. Easier
availability of house loans and the lifting
of laws like the ULCRA.
Reza Kabul born in 1960 took to architecture
as a result of his love for art particularly
sketching and painting. As a child Reza
loved to play with building blocks piling
them upto great heights. In order to realise
his dreams he graduated uin Architecture
from the MS University of Baroda in 1985.
Though he was a first class student while
working as a junior architect Reza realised
he had much to learn. He was thrilled when
for the first time he has his dreams take
concrete shape.
Encouraged by his success he thought if
I can work for somebody else so productively
why not start my own office. So in 1988
he launched his own company the ARK CONSULTANTS
PVT LTD in the mexxaine of a restaurant
at worli with a staff of only 2 people.
Driven by his childhood urge to build big
Reza worked late nights straining to reach
for success.

PROJECTS EXECUTED
THROUGH REZA KABULS DESIGNS
Shell Inn International , one of Asias fastest
growing conglomerates is Architect Reza
Kabul's most zealous client.
Reza has designed their swanky new hotel
in Dubai. The Saturaio and Red Verona Italian
marble clad lobby is indicative of the elegant
styule within. An interesting plaster of
Paris star shaped lightning arrangement
on the ceiling is dramatically reflected
on the marble floor.
Reza takes great pride in two of the distinctive
restaurants he designed here, The 49'ers
and Dawaat. The 49'ers is inspired by the
Texan Gold Rush. Western cowboy artefacts
like boots, saddles, jeans cartweheels,
stools and even the Texan route of the Gold
Rush are generally used on walls furniture
and table mats to recreate the wacky wild
west scene of 1949. Part of this Restaurant
offers a night club ambience with loud music
and a live band. While the other side is
conducive to sit down dinners and slow,
soft music. A barbecue chicken and a grillroom
serving sizzling steaks is centralised in
this 9000 sq. ft. area restaurant. Daawat.
The Indian Restaurant exhudes an all white
post modern Indian architectural look. Tapestry
and furnishings in bright hues make the
room come alive and complete the oriental
look.

ABOUT REZA KABUL THE
PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT
Reza Kabul started practising independently
in late 1987. Since then he has never had
to solicit work It arrives in exciting ways
more often than not from satisfied clients
with new work offers. His projects are a
balanced mix of architecture and interior
design and includes residences offices and
hotels.
At Hafeez Contractor's, associate architect
Reza helped design some of Hafeez's best
work back then, like the Oxford towers and
the BPCL project. The influence of Hafeez's
eclectic work often surface in Reza's work
but Reza emphatically believes that the
style his work exhibits is certainly his
own. Considering the limitations born out
of clients briefs, BMC regulations and site
requirements Reza strives to project his
ideas within a framework of very small compromises.
Reza's work is simple novel and sophisticated.
He believes in creating a comforting ambiance
rather than an impressive yet cold design.
Reza talks very emphatically about his work.
